Graduate Medical Education Committee and the Residency
Training Committee.
This was after graduating from the 4 year Adult General
Psychiatry Residency Program at Robert Wood
Johnson
Medical
School. She served as
Chief Resident during her fourth year of residency,
participated in scholarly research and has been a co-author
for a chapter for an Emergency Psychiatry textbook and medical
journal articles. Dr. Lucas will be applying for a volunteer
faculty position in the Division of Psychiatry at Robert Wood
Johnson
Medical
School to continue to
teach medical students, residents and fellows.
Dr. Lucas graduated from the University of New England College
of Osteopathic Medicine.
At UNECOM she served on the executive board of the
American Medical Student Association (AMSA). As a medical
student she was selected to attend National AMSA’s Political
Leadership Institute.
Dr. Lucas attended Douglass
College, Rutgers University
as a Douglass Scholar and Bloustein Distinguished Scholar. She
graduated with Honors in Psychology as well as with The Award
for Highest Achievement in the Field of Psychology. At

hall for women in Science, Mathematics and Engineering.
Through an Externship program at
Douglass
College, Dr. Lucas did research at
Kessler Institute in
West Orange,
NJ in the Department of
Neuropsychology.
Today Dr.
Lucas practices Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatric
Medicine. She is passionate about utilizing both
psychopharmacology and psychotherapy as mechanisms of change
to facilitate the healing of her patients. She does not
jump to the sole use of psychiatric medications without
extensive discussion of the risks versus benefits of
psychopharmacologic intervention alone. She prides
herself on providing extensive education to help families and
patients in this process.
Dr.
Lucas is skilled at psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral
therapies with children, teens and adults. She employs
motivational interviewing techniques with oppositional
patients to access their own motivation and use it to fuel
their own personal growth and discovery.
She is a member of The American
Psychiatric Association and The American Academy of Child and
Adolescent Psychiatry.
